Jackson was born in Queens, New York City, and grew up in the South Jamaica neighborhood by his mother, Sabrina. A drug dealer, Sabrina picked up Jackson until he died in a mysterious fire when Jackson was 8. After his mother's death and his father's departure, Jackson was raised by his grandmother.
He started boxing at the age of about 11, and when he was 14 years old, a neighbor opened a boxing gym for the local youth. "When I do not spend time at school, I play in the gym or sell on the strip," Jackson remembered. "I'm competitive in the ring and hip-hop is also competitive... I think the rapper conditions themselves like boxers, so they all feel like they're champions." At age 12, Jackson started dealing with narcotics when his grandparents thought he was following after school and bringing guns and drug money to school. In the tenth grade, he was caught by a metal detector at Andrew Jackson High School: "I was embarrassed because I was arrested like that... After I was arrested I stopped hiding it I told my grandmother [openly], 'I'm selling drugs.' "
On June 29, 1994, Jackson was arrested for selling four bottles of cocaine to an undercover police officer. He was arrested again three weeks later, when police ransacked his home and found heroin, ten ounces of cocaine and an early pistol. Although Jackson was sentenced to three to nine years in prison, he spent six months in the training camp and got his GED. He has said that he does not use cocaine himself. Jackson adopted the nickname "50 Cent" as a metaphor for change. The name was inspired by Kelvin Martin, a 1980 Brooklyn robber known as "50 Cent"; Jackson chose it "because he said everything I wanted to say, I am the same person as 50 Cent I provide for myself in any way."

Careers
1996-99: Beginning
Jackson started knocking in a friend's basement, where he used a turntable to record instruments. In 1996, a friend introduced him to Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, who founded Jam Master Jay Records. Jay taught him how to calculate bars, write choruses, compose songs, and make recordings. Jackson's first appearance was on "React" with Onyx, for their 1998 album Shut 'Em Down . He praised Jam Master Jay for improving his writing skills, and Jay produced Jackson's first (unreleased) album. In 1999, after Jackson left Jam Master Jay, the platinum producer who sold the Trackmasters signed it to Columbia Records. They sent him to the northern New York studio, where he produced 36 songs in two weeks; eighteen included in his 2000 album, Power of the Dollar . Jackson founded Hollow Point Entertainment with former members of G-Unit Bang 'Em Smurf.
Jackson's popularity began to grow after the successful and controversial underground single "How to Rob", which he wrote in a half-hour trip to a studio. The song clearly illustrates how he will rob a famous artist. Jackson explains the reason for the song: "There are a hundred artists on that label, you have to separate yourself from the group and make yourself relevant." Rapper Jay-Z, Kurupt, Sticky Fingaz, Big Pun, DMX, Wyclef Jean, and Wu-Tang Clan responded to the track, and Nas invited Jackson to join him on his tour Nastradamus . Although "How to Rob" was meant to be released with "Thug Love" (with Destiny's Child), two days before she was scheduled to film the music video "Thug Love", Jackson was shot and hospitalized.
2000-01: Shooting
On May 24, 2000, Jackson was attacked by an armed man outside his former grandmother's house in South Jamaica. After getting into a friend's car, he was asked to return home to buy jewelry; his son is home, and his grandmother is in the front yard. After Jackson returned to the backseat of the car, another car stopped nearby; an attacker walked and fired nine shots from close range with a 9mm pistol. Jackson was shot in the hands, arms, hips, feet, chest and left cheek. The wound of his face caused swelling of the tongue, the loss of wisdom teeth and a slightly slurred voice; his friend was injured in hand. They were taken to the hospital, where Jackson spent thirteen days. The alleged assailant, Darryl Baum, a close friend and bodyguard Mike Tyson, was killed three weeks later.
Jackson remembers the shooting: "It happens so fast that you do not even get a chance to shoot back.... I'm scared all the time... I see in the rearview mirror like, 'Oh shit, someone shot me in the face! It burns, burns, burns. "In his autobiography, From Piece to Weight: Once upon a time at Queens Southside, he wrote:" After I was shot nine times from close range and did not die, I began to think that I should have a purpose in life... How much damage can the shell do? Give me an inch in this direction or that one, and I go ". After using the walker for six weeks, Jackson fully recovered after five months. When he left the hospital, he lived in Poconos with his boyfriend and son, and his training regime helped him develop a muscular physique.
At the hospital Jackson signed a publishing contract with Columbia Records before he was expelled from the label and blacklisted by the recording industry because of his song, "Ghetto Qu'ran". Unable to work in a US studio, she went to Canada. With Sha Money XL business partners, Jackson recorded over thirty songs for mixtape to build a reputation. In the HitQuarters interview, Marc Labelle of Shady Records A & amp; R said that Jackson uses mixtape circuits for his benefit: "He took all the hottest beats of any artist and flipped them with a better hook and then went into all markets on the mixtape and all the DJ mixtapes were playing with them." Jackson's popularity increased, and in 2002 he released mixtape Guess Who's Going Back? . He then released 50 Cent Is the Future supported by the G-Unit, a mixtape that reviewed material by Jay-Z and Raphael Saadiq.
2002-2006: Rise to fame
In 2002, Eminem heard of Jackson's Guess Who's Back? CD, received from Jackson's lawyer (who works with Eminem manager, Paul Rosenberg). Impressed, Eminem invited Jackson to fly to Los Angeles and introduce him to Dr. Dre. After signing a $ 1 million contract, Jackson released No Mercy, No Fear . Mixtape featured one new song, "Wanksta", which appeared on the Eminem soundtrack of 8 Mile. Jackson was also signed by Chris Grayy's Violator Management and Money Management Group Sha Money XL.
Jackson released his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin (pictured by AllMusic as "probably the most hyped debut album by rap artists in about a decade"), in February 2003. Scrolling Stone notes "dark synthetic flow, buzzy keyboard and funky continuous bounce", with Jackson completing production in an "unshakable and relaxed stream". It debuted at number one on Billboard 200, selling 872,000 copies in the first four days. The lead single, "In da Club" (recorded by The Source for "smoldering horns, funky organs, guitar riffs and sparse applause"), set the Reklame note as the most heard song in radio history within a week.
Interscope gave Jackson his own label, G-Unit Records, in 2003. He signed Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck as a G-Unit member, and The Game was later signed in a joint venture with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. In March 2005 Jackson's second commercial album, The Massacre , sold 1.14 million copies in the first four days (the highest in the abbreviated sales cycle) and became number one on Billboard 200 for six weeks. She is the first solo artist with three singles on the top five Billboard in the same week as "Candy Shop", "Disco Inferno" and "How We Do". According to Rolling Stone , "The secret weapon 50 is the sound of his singing - an amateurish-sounding deceptive tenon trick that he puts in almost every chorus."
After the departure of the Game, Jackson signed Olivia and rap veteran Mobb Deep to G-Unit Records, with Spider Loc, M.O.P., 40 Glocc and Young Hot Rod later joining the label, all of which eventually left the label. Jackson expressed interest in working with rappers other than G-Unit, such as Lil 'Scrappy from BME, LL Cool J Def Jam, Mase of Bad Boy and Freeway of Roc-A-Fella, and recorded with some.

On September 3, Jackson supports Eminem at his home and Jay-Z The Home & amp; Home Tour, doing "Crack A Bottle" with Eminem and Dr. Dre amid rumors of tension between Jackson and Dre.
He "recorded 20 songs to different album concepts" before setting them aside, wanting his new album to have "aggression" from Get Rich or Tryin Dian ' . Jackson tweeted that the album was "80 percent finished" and fans could expect it in the summer of 2011. He speculated on MTV News about not renewing his five-album deal with Interscope: "I do not know... Everything will be clear in the negotiations after I change this actual album and, of course, the show and how they actually treat the job will determine whether you still want to stay in that position or not. "
On June 20, 2011, Jackson announced the release of Before Me Self Destruct II after his fifth album. Although he plans to record a music video for the fifth major single album, "I'm On It", on June 26 the video was never filmed. In September 2007, he told Time that although he would not support the candidate in 2008, he "liked Hillary [Clinton]". Six months later, the rapper told MTV News that he had transferred his support to Barack Obama after hearing him speak, but had lost interest in politics. When asked for his opinion on President Obama's support on May 9, 2012 against a gay marriage, Jackson said, "I am for that... I have encouraged same-sex activities, I have been involved in the field of amulets several times." He has been criticized for anti-gay comments in the past.
Forbes recorded Jackson's wealth in 2007, placing it second only to Jay-Z in the rap industry. He lives in a Farmington, Connecticut farmhouse formerly owned by former boxer Mike Tyson, who sold for $ 18.5 million to move closer to his son (who lives on Long Island with his ex-girlfriend). The Mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut declared October 12, 2007 "50 Cent Curtis Jackson Day", honoring the rapper with the proclamation and key to the city. One Jackson home in New York, purchased in January 2007 for $ 2.4 million and the center of the lawsuit between Jackson and Shaniqua Tompkins, burned on May 31, 2008 while he was filming in Louisiana.
In December 2008, he told the Canadian press that he had lost several million dollars in the stock market and, unable to sell his house in Connecticut, had delayed Before I Destroyed Myself due to the economic downturn. Jackson won a lawsuit in November 2009 against Taco Bell over the use of the fast food chain in his name without permission.
In 2016, about his beef with Meek Mill, he commented, "You know, he's really not that smart, the boy is not so smart," he said. "The easiest thing you can do is bring someone else into your statement, right, when you're writing music. On May 4, 2016, after making fun of a teenager who, unknown to 50, has a handicap, he donates $ 100,000 to Autism Speaks.
Capture
On June 29, 1994, Jackson was arrested for selling four bottles of cocaine to an undercover police officer. He was arrested again three weeks later, when police ransacked his home and found heroin, ten ounces of cocaine and starter pistol. Although Jackson was sentenced to three to nine years in prison, he spent six months in a training camp (where he earned his secondary school equivalency diploma). According to him, he does not use cocaine.
Jackson and four members of his entourage were arrested shortly before 2 am on December 31, 2002, when police found a.25 caliber and.45 caliber pistols in a parked car (which they were looking for because of the dark windows) outside. Manhattan nightclub. The rapper was charged with two alleged possession of a criminal weapon.
Jackson was sentenced to a two-year trial on July 22, 2005 for the May 2004 incident, when he was charged with three counts of assault and battery after jumping into an audience when he was hit by a water bottle.
Image use
Jackson filed a lawsuit against an advertising company, Traffix of Pearl River, New York, on July 21, 2007 for using his image in a campaign that he said threatened his safety. He was told by a staff member for Internet advertising on the MySpace page. According to court documents, the ad has a cartoon drawing rapper with "Shoot the rapper and you will win $ 5000 or five ringtones guaranteed". Although the ad did not use his name, the image was allegedly similar to him and suggested he validate the product. The lawsuit, referring to the advertisement as "a vile, ill-tasted, and deplorable" image of Jackson's image "literally called [ed] for his violence", called for unspecified compensation and permanent orders against unauthorized use of his image.
Hygiene incident
While walking through Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in May 2016, Jackson harassed and insulted janitor at the airport, accusing him of being under the influence. The janitor was an autistic hearing-impaired teenager, named Andrew Farrell. The parents of the janitor have seen viral videos as disrespectful and want to sue Jackson for his actions against their child. The suit was initially over a million dollars, but his parents decided to donate $ 100,000 to Autism Speaks and his apology.
Bamboo Sample
In 2016, a judge stated that Brandon Parrott gave Dr. Dre and 50 Cent rights to "Bamba" for the song "P.I.M.P."
Other civil and criminal issues
One of his homes in New York, purchased for $ 2.4 million in January 2007 and the center of the lawsuit between Jackson and Shaniqua Tompkins, burned on May 30, 2008 while he was filming in Louisiana. On August 5, 2013, Jackson pleaded not guilty to one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism in a Los Angeles County court. If convicted on all charges, he faces a five-year prison sentence and a $ 46,000 fine. Model-actress Daphne Joy accused Jackson of kicking and ransacking his bedroom during a fight at his condo in Lake Toluca neighborhood of Los Angeles on June 23. He allegedly caused $ 7,100 damage to property, leaving the scene before police arrived.
Judge Ann Nevins had ordered Jackson back to court because of Instagram messages he had made for several months. He said Jackson is not entirely clear about the funds and shows the rappers post showing his pile of money. In March 2016, Jackson claimed that he would no longer use Instagram, instead choosing to have his profile page operated by someone else.
Feuds
Ja Rule
Before he signed a contract with Interscope Records Jackson was involved in a public dispute with rapper Ja Rule and his label, Murder Inc. Records, said that a friend robbed jewelry from Ja Rule and the latter accused him of orchestrating a robbery. Ja Rule says that the conflict came from a Queens shoot, when Jackson did not like to see him "get so much love" from the neighborhood. At The Hit Factory in New York in March 2000, Jackson had an argument with fellow Murder Inc. and received three stitches for stab wounds. Rapper Black Child claimed responsibility for the stabbings, saying that he acted in self-defense when he thought someone reached for a gun.
A statement by an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agent suggests a link between Murder Inc. and Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, a New York drug lord who was allegedly involved in the murder of Jam Master Jay and the shooting of Jackson. A quotation is quoted:
Investigations have found a conspiracy involving McGriff and others to kill a rap artist who has released songs containing lyrics about McGriff's criminal activities. The rap artist was shot in 2000, survived and after that refused to cooperate with law enforcement on the shooting. Messages sent via Murder Inc.'s pager. shows that McGriff is involved in an ongoing plot to kill this rap artist, and that he is communicating with employees of Murder Inc. on target.
In an MTV interview, Ja Rule admits his defeat by Jackson and says that his 2009 album, The Mirror , will not continue the feud: "There are many things I want to say, and I do not" I do not want to exist bitter notes on the album. Because I am not bitter about anything that happened [in recent years]. "The end of the Jackson-Ja Rule feud has been confirmed in May 2011. According to Ja Rule," I'm cool. We are no longer worsening. We will never collaborate. That's what happened. You do not have to fight with someone, but also like the US and other countries that may not suit them. We do not have to go to war, but we are not friends either. But we can coincide in the world. He did it, and he did not think of me, and I did me and I did not think about it. "
On August 7, 2015, the feud between the rapper then reappeared when Ja gave feedback to social followers via Twitter over the same feud between Meek Mill and Drake. Angry, 50 then reply back with photos and comments via Instagram, just siding with Drake. Hostilities reemerged three years later on January 19, 2018 when Ja Rule came down to Twitter, calling 50 Cent on social media.
The Game
Although Jackson was close to The Game before the latter released their debut album, The Documentary , they grew apart. After Jackson's The Documentary ', Jackson felt that The Game was unfaithful for saying that he did not want to participate in the G-Unit hostility with other rappers (like Nas, Jadakiss and Fat Joe ) and his desire to work with the G-Unit fighting artist. He said that he wrote six songs for the album and did not receive the right credit, which was rejected by The Game.
Jackson later dismissed The Game from G-Unit on Hot 97. After the announcement, The Game (the previous guest at night) tried to enter the building with his entourage. After they were denied entry, one of his colleagues was shot in the leg in a confrontation with a group of men who left the building. As the situation increases, the rappers hold a joint press conference announcing their reconciliation, and fans are not sure whether the rapper has taken a publicity stunt to increase the sales of their newly released album. After the cold situation, the G-Unit criticized the credibility of Game roads and announced that they would not appear on his album. During the Summer Jam show, Game announces a boycott of the G-Unit, which he calls "G-Unot".
After The Game Game's Summer Show recorded "300 Bar and Runnin '", "diss" extended from G-Unit and Roc-A-Fella Records, to mixtape You Know What It Is Vol. 3 . Jackson responded with his "Piggy Bank" music video, with The Game as Mr. Potato Head and parody of other rivals. They continue to attack each other, with The Game releasing two more mixtapes: Ghost Unit and mixtape-DVD, Stop Snitchin, Stop Lyin . Jackson laid the head of The Game on a male stripper for a cover of Hate It or Love It (G-Unit Radio Part 21) mixtape in response to G-Unit Game pictures dressed as People -village People. The Game, under contract for Aftermath Entertainment, was signed with Geffen Records to end its contractual obligations with the G-Unit (though it was claimed that Jackson pressed Dr. Dre to fire him). The members of G-Unit Spider Loc have insulted The Game in the song, and the last released "240 Bar (Spider Joke)" and "100 Bar (The Funeral)" attack G-Unit and Loc. Jackson's response was "Not Rich, Still Lyin '", taunting The Game. Lloyd Banks answered Game in the freestyle-booth City Rap segment, followed by a "diss" song ("SoundScan") game taunting the fall of 13-position Banks Rotten Apple's album on the chart < i> Billboard 200 and disappointing second week sales. Banks replied on his mixtape Mo 'Money In Bank Pt. 5: The Green Season Gang Continues with "Showtime (The Game's Over)", saying that Jackson wrote half of The Documentary and laughs at Game's suicidal thoughts.
In October 2006, The Game made a (not immediately answered) peace overlay to Jackson, but two days later he told Power 106 that the peace offer was only for one day. In some songs on Doctor Advocate , he implies that the feud has ended. He said in July 2009 that the feud had ended with the help of Michael Jackson and Diddy, and apologized for his actions. According to Tony Yayo, Jackson and G-Unit did not accept his apology and The Game has continued his call for a "G-Unot" boycott at the concert. Jackson released "So Disrespectful" in Before I Self Destruct , targeting Jay-Z, The Game and Young Buck. The Game responded with "Shake", making fun of the music video for Jackson's "Candy Shop".
On August 1, 2016, 50 Cent ended his twelve-year aggression with The Game when both were on the Ace of Diamonds Strip Club and The Game said "What's going on, that shit was 12 years ago."
Rick Ross
Although Rick Ross started feuds with Jackson over alleged incidents at the BET Awards in January 2009, Jackson told news sources he did not remember seeing Ross there. Late that month Ross' "Mafia Music" leaked on the Internet, with the lyrics apparently belittling Jackson. A few days later, Jackson released "Officer Ricky (Go Head, Try Me)" in response to "Mafia Music". The next day, Ross appears on Shade 45 (Eminem's Sirius channel) and tells Jackson to come up with something better within 24 hours.
Before leaving for Venezuela, Jackson uploaded a video ("Shot Warning", told Ross, "I'll ruin your life for fun") and the first of a series of "Ricky Officers" cartoons. In early February, she uploaded a YouTube video where she interviewed "Tia", the mother of one of Ross's sons; according to him, Ross is actually a correctional officer. On February 5, 2009, The Game called the Seattle KUBE radio station. Asked about a dispute between Jackson and Ross, he sided with Jackson and offered to mediate: "Rick Ross, holla to your boys, men" and "50 eat you, kid."
In his album Deeper Than Rap , Ross calls Jackson in "In Cold Blood" and Jackson's artificial funeral is part of the song's video. When the song was released, Ross said that he ended Jackson's career. "Rick Ross is Albert From CB4.You have seen his movie? He's Albert," Jackson answered in an interview. "Never worse than this. You get a man who is a correctional officer out and base his entire career on writing material from the perspective of a drug dealer like" Freeway "Ricky Ross." Their hatred revived at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2012, where Jackson and Kidd Kidd's G-Unit member Mike Knox, Tony Yayo was spotted in the attacking video of Gunplay (Ross member of Maybach Music Group). Gunplay's Maybach Music diamond necklace was stolen during a fight, and a few days later Jackson appeared in Washington's bowling alley, D.C. who wore the Gunplay chain. On January 30, 2013, Jackson tweeted that Ross's attempted drive on his birthday three days earlier was "staged".
Recently his animosity with Rick Ross has reappeared.
