Staind "English respelling pronunciation"> STAYND ) is an American rock band formed in 1995. The original lineup consisted of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Aaron Lewis, lead guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist and backing vocalist Johnny April, and drummer Jon Wysocki. The formation has stabilized beyond Wysocki's departure in 2011, which was replaced by Sal Giancarelli. Initial years and Tersed ( 1995- 1998)
In 1993, vocalist Aaron Lewis and guitarist Mike Mushok met at a Christmas party in Springfield, Massachusetts. Mushok introduced drummer Jon Wysocki while Lewis brought bassist Johnny April to form the band in 1995. Their first public show was in February 1995, playing in heavy, dark and introspective metal style. An extensive tour in the Northeast helped Staind gain regional followers over the next few years.
The band began covering Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Tool, and Alice in Chains, among others, and played at local clubs (most often played at Club Infinity) for a year and a half. Staind released their own debut album, Tortured , in November 1996, citing Tools, Faith No Longer, and Pantera as their influence. In October 1997, Staind obtained a concert slot through Aaron's cousin Justin Cantor with Limp Bizkit. Just before the show, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was struck by the awful Staind album cover and failed to try to remove it from the bill. Durst thinks that Staind is Theistic Satanists. After being convinced to let Staind perform, Durst was impressed with their performance. After hearing Staind's performance, Durst was so impressed that he signed them to Flip Records in February 1998.
Dysfunction (1999-2000)
On April 13, 1999, Stain released his major label label Dysfunction on Flip Records. The album, produced jointly by Fred Durst and Terry Date (which also produced acts like Soundgarden, Deftones, and Pantera), received a comparison with the alternative metal giants Tool and Korn. In particular, Aaron Lewis was praised for his vocals, which were likened to Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam.

On September 6, 2006, Stain performed an acoustic show at Hiro Ballroom, New York City which was recorded for their singles collection. They played sixteen songs including three covers: the "Sober" Tool, Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" and Alice in Chains's "Nutshell".
The Singles Collection: 1996-2006 was released on November 14, 2006. It included all the band singles, three covers performed on the New York show and the remastered version of "Come Again", from the first independent release of Staind Tortured .
Illusion of Progress (2008- 2009)
On August 19, 2008, Stain released their sixth album, The Illusion of Progress . Before the album's release, the song "This Is It" is available for download on the iTunes Store, as well as for Rock Band . The album debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200, No. 1 on Chart Top Modern Rock/Alternative Album, No. 1 in the Top Digital Album Staircase, and also No. 1 on the Top Internet Albums Ladder, with first week sales of 91,800 units.
