"This Is What You Come For " is a song by Scottish DJ and record producer Calvin Harris, featuring singer Barbara Rihanna. The song was released on April 29, 2016, through Columbia Records and Westbury Road. Featuring the influence of house music, the song was co-written by Taylor Swift who was originally credited with the pseudonym Nils Sj̮'̦berg. Rihanna and Harris previously collaborated on her sixth studio album, Talk That Talk , which included the international chart-topper "We Found Love" and the top five US singles "Where Have You Been", a former written and produced by Harris. She plays the final version for Rihanna at the 2016 Coachella Music Festival.
The single debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart. It peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Rihanna's 21st and second Harris's; the current song is Harris's highest single as the main artist. It became Rihanna's 25th roster and Harris's fourth chart at Dance Club Songs and also reached number one in the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs; the single became the number one twelfth to Rihanna and Harris's tenth on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay sister chart. It topped the charts in Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland and peaked in the top ten charts in Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland.
"This Is What You Came For" received mixed criticism from critics (some praising them for making compelling songs, others calling it boring) and calling Rihanna's vocals as too mature. A music video for this song aired on June 17, 2016 and featured Rihanna in an open cube with images projected on the inner wall.

Write and release
Calvin Harris presented the last recording for Rihanna, two weeks before it was released. During his performance at Coachella, Harris shared a song with Rihanna and her manager in the trailer. Harris stated that he was "nervous" to play the song because he "changed so many bits from when he first heard it." The song marks the collaboration of the three couples, following the global chart-topper "We Found Love" and Billboard Hot 100 top-five singles "Where Have You Been", both of which are featured on Rihanna's sixth studio album, Talk That Talk (2011).
Harris and Nils Sj̮'̦berg are credited as songwriters. On July 13, 2016, TMZ reported that the song was co-written with Harris's boyfriend, Taylor Swift, who used the pseudonym Nils Sj̮'̦berg because they did not want their relationship to overshadow the song. The song became a point of contention after it was released, when Harris - in response to being asked about the possibility of collaborating with Swift during an interview with Ryan Seacrest - said that he "could not see it happen." Harris also took his Twitter account to confirm that Swift wrote the lyrics and contributed some vocals, while he "wrote music, produced songs, arranged and cut vocals", and also confirmed his previous request for confidentiality as a songwriter.. The credit has been formally changed to "Taylor Swift" in BMI and ASCAP entries for the song.

Composition

Music video
The official music video for the song directed by Emil Nava with Photography Director Martin Coppen and edited by Ellie Johnson, was released to YouTube on June 16, 2016. Inside, giant white boxes are displayed in various places, such as hazy squares and woods. The scene then cuts into Rihanna, wearing a sparkling blue jumpsuit, singing while standing and dancing in the box. While he does, the graph is projected onto all 5 sides around him. The laser is the only other effect used with video projection, and is provided by Dynamic FX. This includes a variety of video effects and designs, footage of crowds partying and running horses, and a picture of a mountain with lightning on it. The video technology used for the projection incorporates all the corners of the supporting video, so it will be displayed without shrinking the image and allowing it to be played in a 3D environment. This new technology is used for the first time in this video. The video also has many scenes and different cube designs cut from it, because the shooting was cut due to time constraints. Calvin Harris made a brief cameo appearance on video, driving a sports car (Lamborghini Aventador). When the video ends, Rihanna walks out, revealing the box is set on a dark and lonely sound stage. Two months after its release, the video reached 500 million views, and on November 29, 2016, the video reached one billion views. As of May 2018, it has reached 2 billion views, and is the most viewed video ranked 22nd.
Critical reception
"This Is What You Came For" received mixed reviews. Lary Barleet of NME states that "When he builds to a climax, he pulls it back, avoiding the EDM drop in favor of voguish and mellow tropical homes. This is sure to be a hit, but by manipulating his voice so much, the personality that made 'We Found Love' stand out, and his latest album 'Anti' is so compelling. The results are surprisingly soulless. "Robbie Daw of the Idolator gave this song a positive review, stating," The song is pretty decent for the footing of Euro-centric dance floor Just a little - that might be the right decision, why try to reach the top of the classic and fail when you can zigz zero, aim at another area altogether?
Ryan Middleton of the Music Times stated, "The song begins with Rihanna's vocals and mostly collaborates with a soft build that" falls "into a steady home, a four-on-the-floor rhythm and deep bass puncture, using Rihanna's voice as key elements for melodies No jumps, pop synth radios might be expected of both, but again this is not 2011 and a simple change from 'We Found Love,' will be disappointing. This decline may be a bit disappointing for fans when first listening , but give it a second, third or fifth round and there is a quality earworm for this one that will stay with you for a while may not have the immortal power of 'We Found Love,' but it will dominate the radio throughout the summer. "He praised the song because it created an interesting hit, but he criticized Harris for failing to create something new. NPR listed it on 89 in the "Top 100 Songs of 2016" list, while Fuse thought of it as the 10th best song of the year. The song is listed as # 9 in the The Ten Worst Songs of 2016 video published by YouTuber Adam Buckley on his ADoseofBuckley channel.
