Richard was first discovered as a solo artist by Kemic A. Smothers during a live performance in 2004 at Tipitina's Uptown in New Orleans, which led him to be signed under the pseudonym "Dawn Angelique" for an exclusive recording contract with Octarve Anderson, Jr. and an independent music label based in Atlanta, Yes! Brother Note . The album was later completed via recording sessions in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New Orleans with production by The NexMen, Rochad Holiday and Curtis "Sauce" Wilson.
