The eighth season of One Tree Hill , the American television series, aired on September 14, 2010. After a successful assessment of the season's early episode of The CW, the network ordered a nine back-order order episode, bringing the total number of episodes to twenty-two.
Season 8 featured the initial opening credit credits and the opening theme song "I Do not Want Be Be" covered by various artists each week, while the original version was sporadically displayed. Schwahn wrote 13 of 22 episodes, including the last six episodes of the season.
The season opened for a rating of 1.1 adults 18-49 and 2.14 million viewers. The thirteenth season episode, "The Other Half of Me" that saw Brooke get married reached the highest season in all categories with a rating of 1.2 Adults 18-49, 2.4 on Women 18-34 and 2.42 million viewers making it the most watched episodes since December 2009. The season averaged 1.8 million viewers. It was released on DVD in the UK on October 29, 2011.

The series was officially updated for the eighth season on May 20, 2010. It also announced the event will move to Tuesday at 8:00. East/7: 00 Middle afternoon, as a hint for Life Unexpected . The first season on September 14, 2010. Entertainment Weekly first reported that there will be a crossover event with Life Unexpected . In a crossover, Haley and Mia travel to Portland (where Life Unexpected is set) to sing in a music festival hosted by Cate radio station. Haley and Cate met and were "shocked to learn that they shared stories similar to mothers." CW hopes that a crossover event will make One Tree Hill's viewers want to see Life Unexpected . This episode airs October 12th.
The original theme song of the show, "I Do not Want Be Be" by Gavin DeGraw and the original credit format will be back for this season. Mark Schwahn has decided to introduce a new style of theme song every week by choosing different artists to do it like Kate Voegele and a member of Fall Out Boy. This will be the first season in 3 years to show opening credits.
On September 23rd, The CW ordered an additional 6 scripts for One Tree Hill , with production orders still at 13. On October 22, 2010, the show was taken for the full season, which will total on 22 episodes.

At the start of the season, Mark Schwahn said "there are a lot of people we want to return," especially Paul Johansson and Danneel Harris. Sophia Bush also revealed that she wanted to see Harris again. Sharon Lawrence signed for a multi-episode bow to play Julian's mother who came to Tree Hill to help plan the wedding of Brooke and Julian. He is described as a "monster-in-law". Laura Izibor also joins the cast as a musician in the same capacity as Kate Voegele. Kid Cudi will be the guest star in one episode for Haley's concert hosted on TRIC. Dave Navarro will also be a guest star as himself.
E! Online confirmed that there are plans for Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton to return to the series in Season 8. Schwahn said that the busy actors schedule can prevent back in time for Brooke's wedding but hope they can return later this season. On December 7, 2010, Kristin Dos Santos reported that Murray and Burton will definitely not be back for Brooke's wedding, but they are still expected to return. However, in a January 2011 interview, Hilarie Burton stated that she would not return to the show because of her busy life. Despite rumors to the contrary, Bethany Joy Galeotti says she will be drawing together until the end. Paul Johansson imitated his role as Dan Scott for one episode. Stephen Colletti was upgraded to the regular status of the series from episode 14, having appeared in recurring capacity since the fourth season.
Movieline reported that Quinton Aaron's Quantum Aaron will appear in the 14th episode of the season. He plays Tommy, a student in Nathan's business class, whom he bonds with. Leven Rambin from Gray's Anatomy starts a recurring role in episode 16. He plays a young woman who Brooke crossed the street as she explored the adoption options. Mark Schwahn confirmed that Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton certainly will not be in the last few episodes of season 8. He said on the matter, "Frankly, we can not make a deal."
Story
Before the eight season begins, Mark Schwahn says there will be fewer crazy storylines and the show will return to its roots focusing on fixed core groups and some guest stars, rather than 30 or more from season 7. He also looks forward to Lucas and Peyton returning for the wedding Brooke and the birth of Haley's baby. He also mentions the new triangle love he developed, "Alex (Jana Kramer) has moved to a new man and a new triangle.He likes Chase (Stephen Colletti) after he and Mia (Kate Voegele) broke up, but in the last episode, Mia explains it through texts that he regretted the decision to end it.This season, viewers will see who really wanted Chase.Chase-Alex-Mia situation is in front and center at the beginning of the season. "
Brooke Davis is happier than ever; preparing to marry Julian Baker. Nathan prepares for his second season in the NBA; Scott's family expect their second child and Haley feels the baby will be a girl. Also, Quinn and Clay's life depends on balance. Robert Buckley said Clay would suffer a cut on his chest. Both Clay and Quinn were later freed and struggled with life back at the beach house. Entertainment Weekly reports that Victoria and Millicent will harm Brooke's future. They began lying to investors about the financing of Over Bro Clothing to finance the male line, causing Brooke to be arrested. He then made the decision to give up his company and his personal fortune to repay the investors in full, causing a new rift between him and Victoria when Victoria just went to jail so Brooke could accompany him.
Nathan left basketball after learning that his back was getting worse. Quinn goes after Katie Ryan when she returns to Tree Hill from a photography trip to Africa, where she has twisted to track down Katie.

DVD release
The eight season DVD release was released almost 5 months after the season finished broadcast on television. It has been released in Region 1 and Region 2 and Region 4. As well as every episode of the season, the DVD release features bonus material such as audio commentary on several episodes of creators and players, deleted scenes, gag scrolls and behind-the-scenes featurettes.
