Lizzie McGuire is a 2003 American teen comedy film released by Walt Disney Pictures on May 2, 2003. The film serves as the closing of the Disney Channel television series of the same name, and is the first theatrical film based on the Disney Channel series. Hilary Duff movie stars, Adam Lamberg, Robert Carradine, Hallie Todd and Jake Thomas, and telling the story of Lizzie's graduation trip to Rome. In its release, the film reached number two at the domestic box office behind X2: X-Men United . The Lizzie McGuire Movie was released on August 12, 2003 on VHS and DVD. Plot
The movie begins when Lizzie McGuire prepares for her junior high school graduation with one of her two closest friends, David "Gordo" Gordon. Another friend, Miranda, has chosen to miss a graduation ceremony for a trip to Mexico City to visit relatives. During the ceremony, Lizzie travels onstage and accidentally carries a curtain over her graduate friends; this caused him to be seduced by his former best friend, Kate Sanders, and his younger brother, Matt. After graduation, Lizzie and her class began their journey to Rome, Italy, accompanied by their future high school principal Angela Ungermeyer. To their dismay, Lizzie and Kate are assigned to the same hotel room.
Their class visited the Trevi Fountain, where Lizzie was approached by an Italian pop star named Paolo who thought she was a singing partner, Isabella. Paolo asks Lizzie to meet him at the fountain the next day, and he pretends sick to slip away. He explained that he and Isabella were booked for the Italian Music Awards, but he left Italy after their breakup. Paolo tells Lizzie that Isabella lips syncs, and begs him to pose as Isabella for the concert. She reluctantly agreed, and began to enjoy the designer clothes, dance exercises, and worship of the fans.
Lizzie continued to pretend ill to prepare for the concert, but Kate quickly learned her secret. For Lizzie's surprise, Kate agrees to help her and the two become friends again. Lizzie began to fall in love with Paolo, to Gordo's disappointment. Ethan suspects Gordo is jealous of Paolo, though he insists otherwise. Meanwhile, Ms. Ungermeyer interrogates the students to find out who sneaks out. Gordo is blamed, and sent back home as punishment. Lizzie was startled when Kate said that Gordo sacrificed herself to protect her.
At the airport, Gordo meets Isabella, who has returned for a concert and is annoyed to hear that Lizzie is impersonating her. He and Gordo realize that Paolo plans to cut Lizzie's microphone at the concert, showing the audience that Isabella is a fake. Paolo's plan was to destroy Isabella's career and embarrass Lizzie. Gordo and Isabella rush to the concert to stop him. Back home, Matt scours the Internet and finds Italian gossip sites with pictures of Lizzie as Isabella. When he told his parents, the family flew to Rome to stop Lizzie and take her home. Ms. Ungermeyer realizes that Lizzie is missing again, and Ethan inadvertently reveals that she is at the Italian Music Awards. The class rushes to the concert to find Lizzie. Gordo and Isabella find him backstage preparing for the show and warning him about Paolo's scheme. Lizzie refuses to trust them at first, but Isabella insists that Gordo is trustworthy and Paolo uses it.
During the show Isabella and Gordo expose Paolo by turning on his microphone, expressing his true voice. Embarrassed, Paolo escapes and is ambushed outside by the paparazzi. His bodyguard, Sergei, tells him it's time to face reality and quit. Sergei teases Ms. Ungermeyer, who made Lizzie's class and family go into concert by beating guards. Isabella introduces Lizzie to the crowd, and makes her sing "What Dreams Are Made Of". As a singer, Lizzie gained new confidence. Then, they celebrate at a party after the hotel. Ms. Ungermeyer canceled Gordo's sentence, and Lizzie's parents, though proud of Lizzie, told her that she was being punished for the rest of the summer. Lizzie and Gordo slipped away from the party to climb to the roof. They promise never to let things change between them. Both kisses and rejoin the party - implying that they are now couples.

The film, produced by Stan Rogow, was directed by Jim Fall from screenwriters by Susan Estelle Jansen, Ed Decter and John J. Strauss and filmed at a location in Rome, Italy in the fall of 2002. All series characters dispelled their roles except for Lalaine (Miranda Sanchez), who left the series at the end of the second season to film the original Disney Channel movie You Wish! His character is said to be on holiday with his family in Mexico City.

The film has a mixed critical acceptance based on 96 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, giving an overall approval rating of 40%. The site's consensus states it's "a harmless piece of fur that should satisfy TV show fans". Scott Brown from Entertainment Weekly gave the movie B: "Let's face it: Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) is too rubbed to be a junior-high underdog, even by the standards of her 'suburban luxe' But it has not polluted the credibility of a six-and-a-half comeback loyal following his Disney Channel show - and that does not make The Lizzie McGuire Movie, a clever, pointless, pointless, unflattering theater outing. The soundtrack was released on April 22, 2003. It mainly consists of songs from (or inspired by) movies, including Hilary Duff's "Why Not" and her sister, Haylie, "Girl in the Band". "Why Not" was released as a single outside of the United States on June 23, 2003 and later incorporated into Hilary Duff's second album, Metamorphosis (with different lyrics in the first paragraph). The album has been certified platinum by CRIA, and 2x platinum by the RIAA for selling 2,000,000 copies in the US.
