Plot
New York Times Chelsea Brown reporter spent a day interviewing comedian and restoring alcohol Andre Allen, star of Hammy The Bear's hit movie franchise about a policeman in a bear suit. Chelsea had forgotten the audio recorder, so they first went to her apartment. While there they discuss magazine articles about the Cinderella complex. Chelsea explains that Cinderella left something behind to let the prince know that she wants to see him again.
Andre is trying to get into serious films with Uprize, where he portrays Haitian Revolutionary Dutty Boukman, and is sensitive to criticism, especially by critic James Nielson, Andre's review has been negative and insulting. When the interview began in his limousine, Andre recalled his lowest point, when he was in Houston in 2003 and met with Jazzy Dee, who gave him drugs, alcohol, and women. But after Jazzy refused to pay the women, they argued that they were raped, leading to Andre's arrest.
After the limousine was hit by a taxi, Andre and Chelsea roamed the city. Andre stops at a jewelry store to take the ring for his wedding with reality TV star Erica Long. They visit the apartments of Andre's old friends and his ex-boyfriend. Chelsea interviewed each one, knowing that Andre was not too funny when he started in a stand-up comedy. They nominated five of their favorite rappers, including the sixth on their list as well. Andre went to radio shows like Opie and Anthony to promote Uprize and attended press conferences with fellow stars including Taraji P. Henson and Gabourey Sidibe. To his dismay, Andre was asked when there would be another Hammy movie.
At a hotel, Andre and Chelsea unexpectedly met his girlfriend, Brad, with his friend, Ryan, who wore Brad's shirt. Chelsea concluded Brad had an affair with Ryan. She and Andre, both of whom recovered alcoholics, stopped at the liquor store but refused to make a purchase. Chelsea explains in graphical detail how the signs are there that Brad is a gay man. Andre laughed, calling Chelsea naive. She became angry and insulted the movie, but both ended up kissing. Andre asks to borrow a Chelsea phone, because his own is dead. While using it, he sees an email from his editor, revealing James Nielson is Chelsea himself. Truth destroys Andre, who angrily tells Chelsea he feels he's never been cute unless he's drunk or tall, and is now afraid for his career. Desperate and acting in the supermarket, he was arrested by the police.
In prison, Andre calls Erica, who grumbles about the arrest, mainly because of how she will look for her image. He tells Andre this skill just because he thinks he has no other talent. Manager Erica, Benny picks up the phone and tells Andre to go to his bachelor party for a good press and flies out for a wedding. Andre's bodyguard, Silk won Andre, and they went to a strip club for a bachelor party on a theme based on Hammy The Bear. There, Andre mingles with Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, and Whoopi Goldberg. They gave her a different view of marriage and sex. Andre ran to Chelsea, who wanted to redeem him and invite him to follow him.
Andre, Chelsea, and Silk went to Comedy Cellar, where Andre got up on stage and did standup for the first time in years. She's still funny, and the crowd loves her. After the show, he informed Chelsea that he was inspired to return to the booth after being imprisoned and talking with DMX, who told Andre he did not want to keep knocking and wanting to sing instead. She then sang "Smile", greatly.
They lowered Chelsea in his place, where he and Andre shared the last kiss before departing. Andre asks five of his rapper, which he lists. While driving, Silk tells Andre he should go after Chelsea. Andre went through the gift bag from the party and found items including scented candles and a bottle of vodka. Then he pulls up a slipper, and Silk smiles.
After the credits began rolling, the film returned to the party, where Jerry Seinfeld shared "the top five" as Sugarhill Gang, Eminem, Wale, Ice Cube, and Sir-Mix-A-Lot.
