Plot

Peter failed to gain the support of Walter (John Noble) from the universe to return to his original timeline, so Peter planned with Olivia (Anna Torv) and Lincoln (Seth Gabel) to travel to a parallel universe so Peter could ask help Walternate (Noble). To avoid wading through the Machine Room, Lincoln took Walter's original dimensionless cross-cutting device, which at this time line was acquired by Massive Dynamic. The plan Lincoln would pose as Lincoln parallel universe and bring Peter to Walternate. Peter did not learn until later that Olivia had told Lincoln to see if Walternate was behind the emergence of a new class of shapeshifers.

Olivia stayed behind while Peter and Lincoln crossed over at the Orpheum Theater. Although Lincoln temporarily posed as a doppelganger, Lincoln and Peter's original identity were soon discovered by the parallel universe version of Lincoln (Gabel) and Olivia (Torv), which Walternate had abrogated. When Lincoln and Peter were brought back to Fringe headquarters, their van driver diverted from the convoy after receiving a call ordering him to kill Peter and Lincoln. Before Fauxlivia and the parallel versions of Lincoln's universe arrived, Peter shot at the driver and was able to escape, leaving Lincoln the main universe to confront Fauxlivia and other Lincoln. They locked Lincoln in the closet when Olivia tried to convince Lincoln-an alternative that Walternate's actions were suspicious: Walternate had extracted them from a case involving these new converters, obviously the case of Fringe. Olivia speculates that Walternate may be behind these new shapeshifters.

Peter travels to his mother, Elizabeth (Orla Brady), goes home and convinces him to take him to Walternate. There, Walternate reveals that he already knows about Peter, because he has "spied" on the universe. Peter explained that the universe distrusted Walternate, believing it to be responsible for the new shapeshifers. Walternate calls in lead scientist, Brandon (Ryan James McDonald), to assure him, but surprises Peter by surprising Brandon aware with a special device, revealing Brandon to be a shapeshifter. While realizing that these new converters began to infiltrate his government, and the only reliable method he found to detect them was a tazer device, but this would not be effective because it was fatal to humans. He asks Peter to return to the universe to gain their trust in his name, because he believes that Peter, as a neutral party, is the only person he truly believes. Only then did Walternate help her return to her timeline.

Fauxlivia and Lincoln find the location from which a phone call to one of the drivers is made, and get Broyles permission (Lance Reddick) to investigate the source. After they left, Broyles contacted David Robert Jones (Jared Harris), and warned him of the coming of Fauxlivia and Lincoln; Jones proved to have some shapeshifters better equipped to be placed.

In the universe, Olivia wakes up in the theater to find the September Observer (Michael Cerveris) sitting in one of the front rows of the theater, shooting at the chest. September warns him that he has seen all the possibilities of the future, and in all that Olivia must die. The Observer disappears before he has a chance to help him.
