Dayenu (Hebrew: ????????? ?) is a song that is part of Jewish Passover. The word "Dayenu" means roughly "it's enough", "that's enough", or "it will be enough" ( days in Hebrew is "/i> first person suffix plural, "to us"). This up-beat traditional Passover song is over a thousand years old. The initial text of this song appeared in the first century haggadah, which was part of the ninth century Seder Rav Amram. The song is about grateful to God for all the gifts he gives to the Jews, such as removing them from slavery, giving them the Torah and the Sabbath, and if God only gives one of the gifts, that is still enough. This is to show a much greater appreciation for them all as a whole. The song appeared in the haggadah after telling the story of the exodus and just before the Easter, matzah and maror explanation.

Lima belas stanza
Dayenu has 15 stanza representing the 15 bounties that God bestowed. The first five involved liberating the Jews from slavery, the next describing the miracles He had done for them, and the last five for the closeness to God He gave them. Each verse is followed by the word "Dayenu" (which is enough) sung repeatedly. The 15 bytes are as follows: Five Hundreds of Leaving Slavery
1) If He has brought us out of Egypt 2) If He had executed the Egyptians 3) If He has executed justice on their gods 4) If He had killed their eldest son.
5) If He has given us their health and wealth.
Five Stanzas of Miracles
6) If He has divided the sea for us 7) If He leads us through dry land 8) If He has drowned our oppressors 9) If He has provided our needs in the desert for 40 years 10) If He gave us manna.
Five Stanzas Being With God
11) If He has given us the Shabbat 12) If He leads us to Mount Sinai 13) If He has given us the Torah 14) If He has brought us to the Land of Israel 15) If He built the Temple for us.

Customs related to Dayenu
The Jews in Afghanistan and Iran hit each other with green onions during the repetition starting with the ninth verse (Even if you have fulfilled our needs in the desert for 40 years but did not give us manna). This may be because of a passage in Numbers 11: 5-6, where the Israelites see manna and remember Egypt. "We remember the fish we used to eat in Egypt, cucumbers, melons, spring onions, onions and garlic, and now our throats are wilting, there's nothing, nothing but this manna to see." It is estimated that by beating each other with the onions they taught themselves not to miss Egypt or forget about Egyptian slavery.
