Ken is a fashion doll introduced by Mattel in 1961 as a fictional partner of Barbie, introduced two years earlier. Similar to her female counterpart, Ken has a fashionable line of apparel and accessories. In the Barbie myth, Ken met Barbie on the set of TV commercials in 1961, although Mattel never mentions the exact nature of their relationship. Since his debut, Ken has held at least 40 jobs. In October 2009, Mattel announced a new line of Palm Beach that included a Sugar Daddy Ken doll designated for adult collectors. The line officially debuted in the spring of 2010. Name
Ken's personal name is Kenneth Sean Carson. The name he gave comes from Elliot Handler's son. In Random House's 1960s book, his surname was Carson, but, according to Mattel, his middle name was Sean.
