Early life through high school
George Harvey Strait was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, to John Byron Strait Sr. (January 11, 1922 - June 4, 2013), and Doris Jean Couser (June 26, 1930 - January 30, 2010).
He grew up near Pearsall, in Frio County, where his father was a junior high school mathematician and a 2,000 acre (810 hectares) cattle breeder outside Big Wells, Texas. Families work at farms on weekends and in summer. When George was in fourth grade, his father and mother divorced, and his mother moved with her sister, Pency. George and his brother, John Jr. (1950-2009), raised by their father.
Strait started his musical interest while attending Pearsall High School, where he played in rock and roll garage bands. The Beatles were very popular when the Straits were in high school. "The Beatles are huge," Strait insisted. "I listened to them many and many popular groups back then". His musical preferences soon turned to the country with singers Hank Thompson, Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, and Frank Sinatra influencing his style. Strait is not in tune with the country music radio when young, usually listening to the news and reports of farmers. Its introduction to country music mostly comes with live performances, which according to the Strait, can be heard in every city in Texas.

Marriage and the US Army
She eloped with her high school lover, Norma. The couple was originally married in Mexico on December 4, 1971. In the same year, he was registered in the United States Army. While stationed at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as part of the 25th Infantry Division, the Straits began performing with a US Army-sponsored band, "Rambling Country", who played off-base under the name "Santee". On October 6, 1972, while still in Hawaii, George and Norma had their first child, Jenifer.
Higher education
After the Straits was dismissed with respect from the Army in 1975, he enrolled at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and graduated with a degree in agriculture.
Music career
1970s
During his college years, Strait joins band band Stoney Ridge, answering leaflets posted around the campus to find new vocalists. The Straits renamed the Ace group at the Band Hole and quickly became leaders; they began performing at various honky-tonks and bars around southern and central Texas, traveling as far east as Huntsville and Houston. They gain regional followers and are open to national action such as The Texas Playboys. Soon, the band was given the opportunity to record a few singles written by the Carvers, including "It Does not Change The Way I Feel About You," and "I Can not Go Like This" for Houston-based D label. However, the songs never received wide recognition, and the Strait continued to manage his family's cattle ranch during the day to earn additional money.
While he continues to play with his band, with no real connections to the recording industry, Strait befriends Erv Woolsey, who operates one of the bars where Ace in the Hole bands play, and who previously worked for major label MCA Records. Woolsey convinced several Music Row (Nashville) connections to come to Texas and listen to Straits and his band games. Impressed by the performance, but worried that they could not market the West Swing sound that the band performed, they left without a deal.
After several unsuccessful attempts to Nashville to look for a recording contract where the Strait is rejected by every label in the city, he considers giving up altogether to the music. He was offered the job of designing a cattle shed and decided to take it. He gave notice to the band that he was leaving, but after discussing with his wife, he convinced her to give the music one more year. Not long after that, the MCA signed the Straits for a record deal in February 1981. The initial agreement was for one song. If the single is successful, the label will consider performing the album. Ace in the Hole band remains with Strait, performing as a backup band and tour for solo action now.
1980s
In the spring of 1981, Strait released their first single for MCA Records, entitled "Unwound", which climbed to # 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart that year, and was included on Strait Country's debut album. The record featured two more singles including "Down and Out", hit No. 1. 16 for the Straits, and "If You Think You Want a Stranger (There Is One Coming Home)", which reached number three in early 1982, sparked a series of Top Ten hits that went well into the 1990s.
Strait of the Country was praised by critics as a traditional breakthrough that broke the pop-influenced country trend at the time. 1982 also watched the release of Strait's second album, the critically praised Strait of Heart, featuring the first number one of his career, "Fool Hearted Memory", and the top five "Amarillo" by Morning "originally sung and written by Terry Stafford in 1973 In 1983, Strait made his first appearance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when the main star, Eddie Rabbitt, fell ill with the flu.The show in the rodeo has since become a mainstay of his career, making over twenty appearances at Rodeo, and playing with a total of more than a million fans.
The Strait recorded the next 17 No 1s of the decade, including a string of five that lasted from 1983-84 from the next two albums Right or Wrong , first album and award winner CMA Has Fort Worth Ever Crossed Your mind . The following year, he won the CMA award for top male vocalist, and released his first Greatest hits compilation, featuring songs from his first three albums. Also in 1985, Strait released Something Special , the number one album in a row in his career, featuring the number one single "The Chair". In 1986, Strait was repeated as a CMA vocalist this year and released his fourth album. [7] # 7 .
Strait and his family were beset by tragedy when his 13-year-old daughter, Jenifer, was killed in an accident related to a non-alcoholic car. He drove a Ford Mustang driven by Gregory Wilson Allen, 18, from Staples, Texas. He was later charged with Class A minor offenses for vehicle killing. Mike Cox, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Security in Austin, said: "The forces that responded to determine the cause of the accident became excessive speed and that the car did not negotiate properly Jenifer climbed in the front passenger seat and none The four passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time, when the vehicle passes to the side of the passenger, Jenifer is partially removed, causing him to die in the event of a collision, the incident caused the Straits to severely restrict his contacts with the media, interviewing for years after the accident because he and his family did not want to talk about Jenifer's death.
His grief did not hinder his appearance, however, or his output, as he went on to release his first 11 hits, starting with "No One in His Right Thought That Will Leave" in 1986 and ending with "Ace in the Hole" in 1989. The singles spanned four albums, including # 7 , Ocean Front Property in 1987, If You Is not Lovin 'You Ain not Livin' in 1988 and 1989 was Beyond the Blue Neon, all of which reached number one on the country charts charts. Ocean Front Property is the first country album ever to debut at No. 1. 1 on the charts by any artist. Streaks include songs like "Ocean Front Property", "All My Ex's Live in Texas", "Famous Last Words of a Fool" and "Baby Blue". Strait finished the decade by winning the CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1989. A year later, he won the award again.
1990s
Strait started this decade with the release of the tenth studio album, Livin 'It Up , featuring two hit No. 1 included "Love Without End, Amen", her first multi-week hit, and "I Came to Expect You From". Both songs remain No. 1 for five weeks in 1990. Chill the Beginning Fall soon followed in 1991, and received positive reviews. Entertainment Weekly notes that the album marks a shift for the Straits from "repeating itself" in his previous works to produce different material. It produced No. 1 "If I Know Me" and "You Know Me Better Than That", but ended a streak of 31 major ten hit direct with "Lovesick Blues" cover, peaking at No. 1. 24. His record blocked eight top-chart albums with No. 1 peak. 4. In spring 1992, Holding My Own was released. Then in 1992, Strait played the main character in the film Pure Country, and released the soundtrack of the film. This is his most successful studio album, producing hits like "Heartland", "I Cross My Heart", and "When Are You Stop Loving Me", and peaked at No. 1. 1 and No. 6 each in Country and Billboard 200 album charts. The success continued with the next album, Easy Come, Easy Go in 1993, which reached the top five on Billboard 200 and featured hits "I Want to Have The One Back", "The Man in Love with You" and no song title. 1.
The next four albums, including Lead On in 1994, Blue Clear Sky in 1996, Brings Your Love With Me in 1997, 1998 One Step at a Time , all mapped out at No. 1, with Blue Clear Sky claiming the place on its debut week, and Bringing Your Love with Me peak at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time in the Strait career. The album series produced eight single singles for the Strait, including "You Can not Make a Heart Love Somebody", "Carried Away", "One Night at a Time", and "I Just Want to Dance With You".
During this period, the Strait also released a four-disc career retrospective box, Strait Out of the Box , in 1995, which became the second best-selling box ever with a delivery of 8 million in the United States. He was named the CMA Top Male Vocalist in 1997 and 1998. Beginning in '97, and continuing through the first year of the 21st century, Strait became the title of the George Strait State Music Festival, which included artists such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson , and others.
In an attempt to introduce this action to as many fans as possible, the festival promised not to visit any market more than twice. It only plays a small number of dates, usually no more than twenty years, but still managed to become the ninth largest tour in 1998.
Strait completed the decade with the album Always Never the Same in 1999, which reached No. position. 2 on the country charts and match the cross-over success of the Pure State by grabbing No. 1. 6 on Billboard 200. The record yielded the hit "What Do You Say to That", "Temporary", and No. 1 "Write This Down". The album material reviews are generally moderate, but Entertainment Weekly observes that at this point in his career, the Straits can record the "lightest" material and "make it jump" on the radio with "his grace." "Overall, Strait scored 17 No. 1 hits on Billboard's country airplay charts in decades, and brought his success into the next century.
2000s
Strait released a self-named album in 2000, which despite No. 1 and No. 7 in the country and the Billboard 200 album chart, did not produce the No. 1 single. 1, and was the first studio album of his career. not certified platinum. Single "Go On" and "If You Can Do Anything Else" were released from the record, with both peaking in the top five. In May 2001, The Road Less Traveled was released. The reviews for the album are mostly positive, Rolling Stone describes it as sticking to the formula "but adds a few twists that make it superior to some of its last releases." It featured "vocal processing", and was considered by some critics as an experimental album.
Three singles were released from it, two of which reached No. 1. 1, including "She'll Leave You with a Smile", the 50th on the combined chart and "Living and Living Well", both reached the top 30 of Billboard Hot 100, with the former peaking at No. 1. 23, Strait's highest position on the chart. The following year, Somewhere Down in Texas arrived, resulting in a hit "You're Be There," marking Strait's first appearance on the Adult Contemporary chart. The following year, he embarked on a tour that included only 18 gigs but earned over $ 15 million. He attributes this success to the fact that he and his band are "very musically loud", has many collections of songs to take, and the songs are very similar to how they sound on their albums.
On October 3, 2006, Strait marked the 30th year in the music industry with the release of a new album titled It Just Comes Natural . The album was recorded in Key West, Florida at Sound Studio Boat Shrimp Jimmy Buffett (said better recording location due to lack of flare ups during the recording process), which is also the recording location of "Troubadour".
