David Adkins (born November 10, 1956), better known by his stage name Sinbad , is an American comedian and actor. He became famous in the 1990s from being featured on his own special HBO, appearing on several television series, and starring in the movies Ranger Needed, Houseguest , First Child , Jingle All the Way , and Good Burger .

Sinbad was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, son of Louise and Rev. Baptist. Dr. Donald Beckley Adkins. He has five siblings: Donna, Dorothea, Mark, Michael, and Donald. Sinbad attended Benton Harbor High School. He studied from 1974 to 1978 at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, where he wrote two seasons for the basketball team.
Military services
Sinbad served in the United States Air Force as a booming operator at KC-135 Stratotankers. When assigned to the 384th Air Filling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas, he often traveled downtown to perform stand-up comedy. He competed as a comedian/MC in the Air Force Talent Contest in 1981. Sinbad was almost dismissed with disgraceful dismissal for a variety of bad manners, including going AWOL.
After a series of incidents, he was eventually dismissed "to park my car in the wrong position."

Careers
In an effort to stand out in the entertainment industry, Adkins works under the professional name of Sinbad, whom he chooses to admire Sinbad the Sailor. She started her comic career that appeared on Star Search. Sinbad won the round against fellow comedian Dennis Miller, and made it to the final before losing to John Kassir.
He was immediately cast at The Redd Foxx Show, a short sitcom, playing Byron Lightfoot.
Different World
In 1987, Sinbad gained a role in A Different World , a spin off from The Cosby Show built around Lisa Bonet's character Denise Huxtable. Previously, Sinbad appeared in a one-off role at The Cosby Show , as car salesman Davis Sarrette. While Bonet only stayed with the program for one season, Sinbad stayed with the players from 1988 to 1991 as Coach Walter Oakes.
In A Different World , Walter began to fall in love with a girl named Jaleesa who was played by Dawnn Lewis. They dated, and eventually got engaged but decided to cancel the wedding because of different views on life.
The Sinbad Show
In the early 1990s, his popularity has grown enough for Fox to the green light of The Sinbad Show, which premiered on September 16, 1993. In the self-titled series, Sinbad plays David Bryan, 35, a bachelor who decided to become foster parents for two children after being emotionally attached to them.
The series, starring young Salma Hayek, received praise from critics for his role in African American life. Around that time, Sinbad recently received joint custody of two of his children, Royce, then aged 4 and Paige, aged 7, and told the press that this experience told him about parenting only.
The Sinbad Show was canceled, with the last episode aired April 21, 1994. This role earned him a nomination at the 1995 Kids' Choice Awards for "Favorite Television Actor".
Movies and other projects
In 1990, Sinbad performed his first special comedy for HBO called Sinbad: Brain Damaged. The special was recorded at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1993, Sinbad performed the next special stand at the Paramount Theater of New York City at Madison Square Garden called Sinbad - Afros and Bellbottoms which won the 1995 Image Award. He was brought back in 1996 to Sinbad - Son of Human Preacher and again in 1998, to Sinbad - Nothin 'but Funk . All of these events have been released on VHS and DVD.
Sinbad again won the NAACP Image Award in 1998 for his role at Sinbad's Summer Jam III: 70s Soul Music Festival. In 1995, Sinbad has created a company called "David & Goliath Productions", located in Studio City.
From 1989 to 1991, Sinbad was the host of the Current Apollo Performance Show, and back in 2005, while regular host Mo'Nique was on maternity leave. She hosted the Soul Train episode that aired January 14, 1995; appeared as a contestant in the episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! in 1998; and hosted for May 2000 Miss Universe Pageant .
During the 1990s, Sinbad guests starred in the episode of Nickelodeon All That . In one sketch, he plays the father of Ishboo's recurring character, nicknamed "Sinboo". He also made a cameo appearance in the Good Burger comedy film, starring Kenan & amp; Kel, as "Mr. Wheat", a grumpy teacher. His character was modeled after Gough Wheat, a past teacher of film producer Dan Schneider, at White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee.
She and Phil Hartman co starred in the Houseguest comedy film, where she plays Kevin Franklin, a Pittsburgh resident who owes $ 50,000 to the masses. In August 1997, VIBE Magazine started its own nighttime talk show, broadcast on UPN, hosted by actor Chris Spencer. Spencer was fired in October, and replaced by Sinbad; the series went on until the summer of 1998. At the same time, Sinbad performed his special HBO comedy "Nothin 'But the Funk" at Guillermo P. Trinidad Aruba Memorial Stadium.
In 1998 and 1999, Sinbad reunited with Bill Cosby and Carsey-Werner Productions, and appeared in three episodes of Cosby . In February 1999, he was featured in infomercials for Tae Bo, where he claimed that he successfully used Tae Bo's system to become a stunt star.

In 2013, Sinbad voiced Roper in the animated film Planes . That same year she had a guest role in the adult animated series American Dad! , voiced an animated version of himself in the episode "Lost in Space", then returned for the 2014 episode "The Longest Distance Relationship", and again in 2015 "Holy Damn, Jeff's Back!"
In April 2015, Sinbad appeared on USO at Bagram and Kandahar Air Bases in Afghanistan.
In 2017, she appeared in two episodes of Disney Junior The Lion Guard , as Uroho the baboon's voice. That same year, he appeared in the April Fool's CollegeHumor video comprised of footage from the alleged jinni movie Shazaam , based on internet rumors that he has played a genie in a movie titled Shazaam .

Sinbad is also known for its musical abilities, with the expertise of playing multiple instruments; with drums and percussions being the main ones, which he often performs after every performance. He has played with many artists and musicians under the "Memphis Red" moniker; such as Dawnn Lewis and most recently, the Adult-Urban (saxophonist) instrumentalist Journell Henry "p/k/a J. Henry".

Sinbad married Meredith Fuller in 1985. They have two children together. The couple divorced in 1992, but remarried in 2002.
Tax issues
In April 2009, Sinbad was placed in the Top 10 of the worst tax debtors for the state of California because of the state $ 2.5 million in personal income tax. On December 11, 2009, Sinbad filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. On February 5, 2010, it was reported that Sinbad installed a 2.5-acre hill house (1.0Ã, ha) for sale to ease his tax burden.
