The Chronicles of Riddick , also called Riddick , is a science fiction action media franchise created in 2000 by David Twohy includes three live-action feature films, direct-to-DVD animated movies, two video games for PC and console, one comic, one mobile game, and two novelizations.
The series follows the adventures of the Riddick's antihero character (either described or voiced by Vin Diesel) in the 28th century. The Chronicles of Riddick , the fictional world was originally created with the release of Pitch Black , written by Twohy's director Ken Wheat and his brother Jim Wheat. Since then Twohy has written and directed two direct action sequels and was involved in the development of storylines from a number of franchise branches.

Film
Pitch Black (2000)
The first installment of the franchise, Pitch Black , is a lower budget production than later. The story involved Riddick being transported to prison at Hunter Gratzner, a commercial cargo vessel. When the spacecraft was damaged by a comet and made an emergency landing on a remote planet, Riddick fled. However, when the flying creatures start attacking all the survivors, Riddick joins the others to escape from the planet. After releasing a sequel titled The Chronicles of Riddick , in hopes of building a franchise, the film is often referred to as The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black in the next home video release. It received mixed reviews but today is considered a classic cult.
Riddick (2013)
Driven by high DVD sales and the success of the newly restored box office Vin Office, David Twohy wrote the script for the third movie in the Riddick series. The film is produced by Media Rights Capital and distributed by Universal, and was released on September 6, 2013. Karl Urban returned to re-portray his role as Vaako of The Chronicles of Riddick. Katee Sackhoff and Matt Nable also joined the cast. Reviews are mixed, but are considered a moderate success in box-office and improvements over previous films.
Furia
In January 2014, Diesel announced on his Facebook page that Universal wanted to develop a fourth movie Riddick, once again prompted by strong DVD sales of the latest film in the series. They are looking for Media Rights Capital or Legendary Pictures to help finance it. Diesel announced on his Facebook page that the fourth film is titled Furia and will have a R rating.
In April 2016, Vin Diesel confirmed that he and writer-director David Twohy were developing a fourth Riddick film titled The Chronicles of Riddick: Furia . In May 2016, he explained that production at The Chronicles of Riddick: Furia probably began in early 2017. In a video, Vin Diesel asked: "Are you happy to hear about Furia? Do you want to know in where does it all start with Riddick's dark character? ". David Twohy insists that the new film will be rated R. As of May 2018, no further information about Furia has been released.

TV series
Slam City is a short flash movie prequel to Pitch Black by animator Brian Murray with David Twohy available for download on the Pitch Black site. Slam City is in the form of an official and secret prison record detailing Riddick's arrival and escaping from the Ursa Luna Slam City facility, within eleven hours and twenty-two minutes. Specifically, it shows Riddick undergoing surgery that gives him an "eyeshine" - the ability to see in the dark - and pays for this with a pack of Kool cigarettes, as mentioned in Pitch Black . William J. Johns was seen at the end of the film and was accused of capturing Riddick.

This shows some inconsistencies with the official storyline of other films and video games. Dark Fury, an animated film made for DVDs, acts as a bridge between live-action movies from Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. This happened shortly after Pitch Black and involved Riddick and two other survivors of Pitch Black, Jack and Imam, and their run-in with a mercenary ship, as well as his Captain who wanted to make Riddick freeze as part of his warrior collection of the entire universe. It received mixed reviews.
Riddick: Blindsided (2013)
Riddick: Blindsided is a motion comic based on a storyboard scene from a third movie that does not make theatrical pieces. This happened shortly before the Riddick and the bridge that filmed with the previous one. The Riddick's director cuts back most of the material covered in Blindsided back into the movie. It was released online a month before the release of the third film to produce a buzz and it was also included with the home video release of the movie.

Escape from Butcher Bay (2004)
Escape from Butcher Bay is a video game based on the Riddick series, released for Xbox and Windows PC. Act as a prequel to Pitch Black, and involves Riddick escaping from eponymous prison, Butcher Bay. This game is very well received and is often listed among "the greatest Xbox games of all time".
Attack on Dark Athens (2009)
Assault on Dark Athena is a video game for PlayStation 3 computers, Xbox 360, Windows, and Mac OS X. These include enhanced remakes of Escape from Butcher Bay , and include events between the previous game and Pitch Black . Reviews are mostly positive.
Riddick: The Merc Files (2013)
Riddick: The Merc Files is a touch-based stealth action game for Android and iOS devices. It was developed by Gaming Corps, a game developer founded by some of the original developers of previous Riddick games.
Novelization
Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick have received a novelization of their script, by Frank Lauria and Alan Dean Foster respectively. This broadens the elements of the film, especially the Pitch Black, which provides the character backstory for Riddick and The Chronicles of Riddick depicting Necromongers and their religion in more detail.
