Two singles released for double A-side. The cover for the first side shows Michael cross-legged in a black chaise longue in a room with brown walls. The cover for the second side is just a close-up of the first cover, and does not show chaise longue. The single version is called "The Strangest Thing '97" not just "The Strangest Thing" of the album version because the single version is a remixed and re-recorded dance song.
Michael wrote a song about his girlfriend Anselmo Feleppa, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1993. Reviewing Michael at a concert in 2012, at The Guardian ' s Dave Simpson writes, "Waiting for That Day" and "You Have Been Loved" - dedicated to the late mother and her lover and "all others who have been lost since the song was written" (in 1996) - are incredibly moving. "
As it was released at the time, "You Have Been Loved" received a lot of playing in the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales where the lyrics were implied to refer to her, even though it had been released as an album track more than a year earlier.
